et Juliette as this season's final Opera Encore Series offering
in the Kimmel Center’s Innovation Studio on Sunday, April 15th at 2:30

Metropolitan Opera Soprano Mari Moriya
joins Center City Opera Theater as Juliette in its final
Encore Opera Roméo
et Juliette. Ms. Moriya was last seen by Center City Opera audiences
in last season's "Mozart Birthday Celebration" as the Queen
of the Night, a role she has now performed for two seasons with
the Metropolitan Opera and Palm Beach Opera. She will also
be heard by Metropolitan Opera audiences as Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos.
Ms. Moriya was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audtions
and winner of the Cla Muze Vocal competition. Her other roles include: Donna
Elvira, Lucia, Zerbinetta, Konstanze and Lakmé. |

Born
in 1961, Lowell Liebermann is one of the most widely performed and commissioned
composers. The
Picture of Dorian Gray, his first opera, was commissioned
by the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and premiered at the Salle Garnier, Monte-Carlo
on May 8, 1996. Recipient of a Pew Charitable Grant through
the support of the Philadelphia Music Project, Center
City Opera Theater has commissioned a chamber orchestration of
the opera, which will receive its WORLD PREMIERE in Philadelphia on June
6, 9, 10m, and 12, 2007. For tickets, click

On May 20th, Center
City Opera Theater will present “The Magic of Opera,” an operatic
sampling of the most hilarious, beautiful and magical moments of opera in
a program specially tailored for families and children. Singers from Center
City Opera Theater will present an upbeat and lively program that provides
a perfect introduction to opera for newcomers and an entertaining afternoon
of favorites for current opera fans. Selections will be in English and span
the repertoire from Mozart to present-day composers. Tickets are $10 for
adults and $5 for children and will be made available after May 1st. |

Jonathon
Loy, General Director of the Center City Opera Theater since September
2003, has decided to step down in order to pursue his stage directing
career full time. We are pleased to announce that Loy has accepted a position
as Resident Assistant Director with Seattle Opera, one of the largest
opera companies in the United States. Prior to assuming this position
next fall, Loy will work at Intermezzo Opera Festival in West Palm Beach
this summer. Loy will remain involved with the Center City Opera Theater
as he assumes a new role as a member of the Center City Opera Theater’s
Advisory Board. We all wish him the best in his future endeavors.

Volunteers
are a critical component of the Center City Opera Theater team. Have you
always wanted to know what an opera singer's day-to-day life is like? Find
out by volunteering to host one of our artists during their rehearsal and
performance time in Philadelphia. Short-term and longer stays are needed.
We also have volunteer opportunities in event support, fundraising and marketing.
